REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) decision to reject a request for a meeting of the House of Representatives' (DPR's) Special Inquiry Committee (Pansus) is positive, House Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah stated.

"I express my gratitude to President Jokowi for refusing to hold a consultation with the House's Pansus, as its work is now still underway. I view the president's decision as a positive step," Hamzah remarked here on Friday.

He lauded the president's decision to refuse to hold a consultation with the Pansus and DPR leaders on a plan to report the inquiry committee's finding on alleged violations by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"This implies that the president is allowing what is going on under the domain of the DPR with regard to its special inquiry," he noted.

He said the president's outlook "reflects" his support to the special inquiry to thoroughly investigate it.

Hamzah noted that the Pansus will continue to work, as it has received a strong "signal" from President Jokowi, so it will offer the necessary momentum to disclose alleged violations committed by the KPK.

Earlier, the Special Inquiry Committee of the House had urged to meet the president to discuss its findings during 60 days of work.

The Pansus leader had also written to the DPR leadership requesting it to facilitate its meeting with the president.

However, President Jokowi has firmly stressed that such matters do not fall under his domain.

"It comes under the domain of the people's representatives, the House, in particular," Jokowi had said on Wednesday (Sept 20).
