REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) has officially opened the registration for volunteers to all Indonesian citizens through the website http://volunteer.asiangames2018.id.

"We need 2 thousand volunteers for conducting a series of test events in 10 sports events in Feb. The test events will be held in Jakarta," INASGOC Chairman Erick Thohir said here on Monday.

INASGOC requires volunteers aged between 18 and 40 for supporting the implementation of the Asian Games.

"In Palembang, we need 2 thousand volunteers, while we need 11thousand volunteers in Jakarta," he noted.

The registration is offered free of charge for citizens who want to become Asian Games volunteers.

The candidates who register should not give anything to the selection committee.

"We also accommodate volunteers who understand Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese languages," he remarked.

Coordinator of the Volunteer and Human Resources Department of INASGOC, Pusparani Hakim, explained that the volunteer registration for the trial championship will be opened from Sept 18 to Oct 23, 2017.

"We will select them administratively through the system in the network. Therefore, it will be a psycho test in the form of group discussion, followed by an interview test," Hakim stated.

The Asian Games volunteers will get transportation, food allowances, and a number of facilities, including uniforms and shoes.

Volunteers who have passed the selection from INASGOC will receive training in communication, and knowledge in sports as well as tourism.

"They can determine the number of working days as volunteers by arranging their schedule along with the volunteer coordinator," Hakim noted.

The 2018 Asian Games volunteers will work on a scheduled system for eight hours.

Indonesia has targeted an eighth place finish in the 2018 Asian Games, the biggest sporting event.

"We target an eighth or tenth place in the 2018 Asian Games. We should gain 15 gold medals to achieve the target," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani earlier remarked.

However, the senior minister hoped that Indonesian athletes could achieve more gold medals.

"Indonesia, as the host of the 2018 Asian Games, should present more achievements," the minister remarked.

She reiterated the Youth and Sports Ministry, a task force assigned to prepare the athletes (Satlak Prima) and the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), to continue to coordinate in preparing the athletes for the event.

The 2018 Asian Games will be held from Aug 18 to Sep 2, 2018, in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra. The Games will have at least 40 sports events.

Indonesia will deploy athletes in 44 Olympic sports at the 2018 Asian Games.
