REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANJARMASIN -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has urged regional government leaders to be judicious in utilizing the budget, following the arrests of five people caught red-handed by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on charges of bribery.

"First, be careful in managing finances, (as) both the local and state budgets are the public's money. Be careful. Secondly, beware of gratification. Be careful; all be careful," President Jokowi noted during a visit to the Pasar Baru market, here, Friday.

The president lauded the KPK for successfully detaining five people, including a member of Banjarmasin's Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), on Thursday evening.

"Yes, I think it is good if there are legal facts and proof. It is indeed an achievement for the KPK to catch them red-handed," the head of state noted.

The five people caught in the act in Banjarmasin include those of the local DPRD, state-owned company, and the private sector.

The five have been taken to Jakarta for further investigation.

The anti-graft agency is expected to hold a press conference on the arrest on Friday afternoon.
