REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Technology-based companies such as financial technology (fintech) and e-commerce have great potential. The potential of digital economy in 2019 is even predicted to reach 130 billion US dollars.

On the other hand, economic analyst Faisal Basri stated that the competition between companies will be more stringent. Therefore, it is not impossible if companies like Gojek and Uber to have no future.

"Gojek and Uber will die, because if I need a car I can directly ask to the person and I do not need the application again," said Faisal told reporters in Bank Central Asia Tower (BCA), on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, the existence of financial authorities such as Bank Indonesia and Financial Services Authority (OJK) is still needed. Its existence is related to consumer protection.

"But we do not need to have a new ministry. The purpose is how the country is present for digital economy," he said.

Fintech is likely to unite Southeast Asia (Asean) and even the world, he explained. "Now we focus to unite all over Indonesia which has more than 17,200 islands," he added.
