ICW rejects Pansus plan to lessen KPK's authority

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher Donal Fariz rejected Special Committee (Pansus) of Inquiry Right's plan to lessen Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) authority. 

He said the plan showed the committee aim to weaken the KPK. "We certainly reject the plan. It allegedly aimed to weaken the KPK," Donald told Republika.co.id, Wednesday.

The committee would only be used as 'bridge' to reach the initial purposes, he explained. The initial purposes of the committee is to revise KPK Law, that allow the commission to investigate and prosecute suspect.

"The committee is only used as 'bridge' to reach their aim, which has rejected by public and the Presiden, to revise KPK law," he added.

The committee's investigation related to KPK were filled with unclear information, he stated. There's no relevance between the result of investigation conducted by the committee with its plan to lessen KPK authority.

Previously, a committee member from PDIP fraction, Eddy Kusuma Wijaya, revealed that there was plan to lessen KPK authority in investigating and prosecuting suspect. However, the plan was still personal opinion of members of the committee.
