REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Former commissioner of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bambang Widjojanto (BW) said, Indonesia has a bad record in maintaining the existance of anti-graft body. Since the first president ruled the country, he noticed at least 11 anti-graft bodies have been knocked out.

Those corruption eradication bodies survived not longer than two to three years. "In Sukarno era, state apparatus supervisor was "finished off" when they were very active in investigating alleged corruption in the construction of Gelora Bung Karno," he remarked when speaking as expert witness in the trial related to objects matter of rights to inquiry the House of Representative in Jakarta on Tuesday (September 5).

In New Order era, BW said anti-graft body was filled with competent personnels, among other Tjokroaminoto. "He and other officers were made powerless when facing alleged corruption case in Pertamina, Telkom, Department of Religious Affairs and others cases. All evidences were ignored. Will KPK experience the same?" he asked in rethoric.

BW said recently the House has shown the same move by using their rights to inquiry to the KPK. He rated it as an effort to weaken KPK following investigation of alleged corruption in e-ID card procurement.

"Is KPK dying and at the end of its life? he said.

According to BW, if the House members are serious in combating corruption, then rights of inquiry should be addressed to four agencies who got unqualified opinion from Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia. "I see the House did not file rights of inquiry to those four agencies because of their direct interest. Conflict of interest is one of root of corruption," he said.
