REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto held a coordination meeting with the ministry and agency officials to discuss forest and land fires (karhutla).

"We will be discussing forest and land fires," Environment and Forestry (LHK) Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar said, when she arrived at the office of the coordinating minister in Jakarta, Thursday afternoon.

Besides the LHK minister, several officials were also seen visiting Wiranto's office, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution and Health Minister Nila Moeloek.

Police Chief General Tito Karnavian and former Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Pol Muhammad Iriawan, who is currently the Chief of Police Operations Assistant, and Head of National Disaster Management Agency Willem Rampangilei were also present for the meeting.

Based on Antara's observation, the coordination meeting on karhutla started at 2.10 p.m local time.

In the last week of July, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Head of Natural Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Data and Information Center, had revealed that the emergency alert status for karhutla had been imposed in five provinces, namely Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.

Sutopo added that an integrated task force, including Task Force, Air Task Force, Health Service Task Force, Law Enforcement Task Force, and Socialization Task Force, had been established in each province as a preventive effort to overcome the karhutla.
