REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Indonesia Communion of Churches (PGI) asked the government not to use Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) on mass organizations (Ormas) No.2 of 2017 as a tool to abuse of power. Talked to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), PGI also hoped that Perppu Ormas not to be used as a tool to silence the public.

"We do not expect that the Perppu will be used as a tool to abuse of power in order to silence anyone, because this a democracy country," said PGI member, Bambang Wijaya, after meeting with President Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.

Meanwhile, PGI Secretary General Gomar Gultom added, Perppu Ormas showed the government's commitment in upholding Pancasila. The government should be able to cope with the pressure from anti-Pancasila groups.

"Perppu No. 2 of 2017 also shows the government's commitment in upholding Pancasila," said Gomar Gultom.

In this meeting, PGI also conveyed the government to continue its policies despite pros and cons. "The development of this country must be continued," he added.
