REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Gerindra Party’s Vice Chairman Fadli Zon expressed Gerindra’s readiness to promote Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election. 

He said Gerindra will continue to carry Prabowo although the presidential nomination threshold regulates at least 20 percent of parliamentary seats or 25 percent of national legitimate votes.

“We’re ready to nominate Mr. Prabowo under any circumstances, even if this unreasonable 20 percent presidential threshold is applied, of course we are ready. And no problem,” Fadli said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (July 25).

But he assessed, to full fill the provisions of 20-25 percent, Gerindra must join or set a coalition with other parties. “If the coalition with PKS is enough, Gerindra with PAN is enough, moreover Gerindra with Democrat. If the four parties join in one coalition, then it will be a stronger coalition. So it’s no problem,” Fadli said.

According to Fadli, his party would communicate with a number of other parties, in addition to PKS, which is known to often coincide with Gerindra. Fadli also made sure to invite PAN and Democrat parties. Including the possibility of political parties who currently becomes the government supporting parties.

“In politics, nothing is impossible. Including the party that now supports the government, in 2019 not necessarily also support the government. So we will also communicate with PPP, PKB, and other parties as well. Why not?,” he said.
