REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong, will visit Indonesia for the first time at the end of August.

The planned visit by the Secretary General of CPV to Indonesia was confirmed by Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue after a bilateral meeting with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice President's Office here on Friday.

"The two sides are actively preparing for the visit of Phu Trong, which aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between our countries in all fields," Hue stated.

In addition to announcing the planned visit by the Secretary General of CPV to Indonesia, Hue also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian government for jointly promoting the two countries' strategic partnership, which has been started in 2013.

"Vietnam and Indonesia have established strong and long-standing cooperation and friendship that had been initiated by former Indonesian president Sukarno and Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh, strengthened by becoming a strategic partner," he stated.

He was also grateful for the Indonesian President Joko Widodo's confirmation to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Summit in Danang, Vietnam, in November.

"We await Widodo's visit to Vietnam to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Summit in Danang, in November, this year," he remarked.

Maritime issues including joint patrols, illegal fishing eradication, and border administration were mainly discussed during the bilateral meeting.

Indonesia and Vietnam have not yet completed the boundary-zone negotiations related to the Exclusive Economic Zone after the last meeting on April 27, 2017, in Yogyakarta.
