REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister of Maritime Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project would be executed. The evaluation of homecoming this year showed that people had high demand and interest to train transportation.   

Luhut said the government had talked to Japan for finishing Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project. Indonesian government has been conducting a feasibility test.

“Seeing many people interested in it, Jakarta-Surabaya train will be operated. Maybe it with Japan, we see a good chance,” said Luhut at Kartini Hall, Jakarta on Tuesday (July 4).

Ministry of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the institution and a Japanese team were having a feasibility test for developing Jakarta-Surabaya medium-speed train. The train would give additional option for travelers.

Budi said there was a demand for additional train transportation, among others was Jakarta –Surabaya medium-speed train. “We are designing and having feasibility study for it,” said Budi.

Previously, Budi said the train passengers were increased from time to time. Train became a favorite mean of transportation as it was affordable and quick.

“We will improve it. We will develop Jakarta-Surabaya train with threefold capacity,” he said at his office on Monday (July 3).
