KPU to close registration in 2019 legislative election today

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Commissioner of General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan said the registration for political parties to run in the 2019 legislative election would be closed on Monday (October 16). He revealed up to one day before closing, there were 14 political parties had filed registration files to KPU.

"The registration period for political parties to run in the 2019 legislative election will end on October 16 at 24.00 pm," Wahyu said on Sunday (October 15).

According to him, on previous days, the registration opened from 08.00 am until 16.00 pm. Wahyu said the extension time only available on the last day. It aimed to accommodate political parties who wanted to register at the last moments.

There are eight political parties which confirmed would register on last day. Among them were Idaman Party, Democratic Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), and the Crescent Star Party (PBB).

Meanwhile, KPU has returned registration files of three political parties, namely United Development Party (PPP), Berkarya Party, and Republic Party.

"Anticipating the deadline for registration and avoiding congestion when registering, we will prepare additional registration staffs and make sure the registration service remains smooth until the time is over," he
