Police search suspected terrorist's residence linked to Jakarta attack

The provincial police have searched a residence and took some evidence from the house owned by one of the suspected terrorists, WS, in the West Java Province's capital city, Bandung, on Friday (May 26).

The provincial police have searched a residence and took some evidence from the house owned by one of the suspected terrorists, WS, in the West Java Province's capital city, Bandung, on Friday (May 26).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- The provincial police have searched a residence owned by one of the suspected terrorists, WS in the West Java Province's capital city, Bandung, the spokesperson Sr. Comm. Police Yusri Yunus via telephone here on Friday. 

"Following the Jakarta blast at the Kampung Melayu bus terminal on Wednesday, we have detained three suspects. The police are now moving to searching one of the suspect's home," Yusri remarked. 

He stated that the officers have seized a modified pot lid, as well as 10 mobile phones and some documents. 

"We checked some personal documents, including school certificate and books on Islamic studies for further investigation," the provincial police spokesperson reiterated. 

One of the suspect's neighbors, Verawati said she and other people living nearby were shocked when police raided WS's house. 

She stated WS and his wife had lived in the rented house for seven years.

"Before the police searched his house, people placed no suspicion on WS," Verawati added. 

Meanwhile, in the country's capital city, the province-owned PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) today announced that the Kampung Melayu bus station, which located inside the terminal has been closed due to the blast. 

Despite the company stating earlier that the bus station had opened for regular operations, President Director Budi Kaliwono confirmed that the facility was closed for passengers, starting Friday. 

Budi explained that the company is still working on some repairs. 

"Following the blast, many policemen and military officers are on standby for securing the attack's scene," Budi remarked. 

The national police counter-terrorism Densus 88 squad has arrested three men allegedly linked to the attack in three different areas, including Bandung District, Bandung City, and West Bandung District. 

Earlier on Wednesday night, two bombs exploded in the Kampung Melayu bus terminal and caused the death of three policemen and two suspected suicide bombers. 

The attack also wounded other six police officers and five civilians. Police have not confirm the suicide bombers are from JAD network.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has claimed responsibility for the attack. 

As announced by the group's news agency Amaq, the bomber was one of the IS fighters.
