Palembang's LRT project to be completed on time: Sri Mulyani

Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Palembang, South Sumatra, is predicted to be completed as planned.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- No problems were being encountered in the construction of the light rail transit (LRT) project in Palembang, South Sumatra, and would be completed as planned, Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated here, Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists during her visit here, Mulyani expressed optimism that the LRT project for providing transportation to athletes and spectators of the Asian Games 2018, scheduled to be held jointly in Palembang and Jakarta, would be completed on time. 

Considering the importance of this project for making the Asian Games 2018 a success, it should be free from any obstacle that can hinder its completion, she noted.

The presence of the LRT was expected to enable South Sumatra Province to witness faster development and help boost economic prosperity of the local people, Mulyani remarked. 

According to local media reports, the Palembang LRT project, with a total cost of Rp9.4 trillion, is expected to be fully completed in January 2018. It will serve five routes, including Sultan Mahmud International Airport-Badarudding-Airport Intersection-Tanjung Api-Api.
