Jonan to inaugurates micro-hydropower plant and Werur airport

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SORONG -- Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan is scheduled to represent President Joko Widodo to inaugurates a micro-hydropower plant and the Werur Airport in Tambrauw District, West Papua Province, in early May of 2017.

Head of Tambrauw District Elisa Sroyer stated here on Saturday that the constructions of the power plant and airport have been completed, and the local government had sent a letter to President Widodo, inviting him to inaugurates the two facilities.

Sroyer noted that the president, through the state palace protocol, has responded to the letter and informed that the president had several items on his agenda, and thus, the energy and mineral resources minister will represent him to inaugurates the two projects.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Minister Ignasius Jonan is scheduled to visit Tambrauw District in the first week of May to inaugurate the airport and the power plant," Sroyer explained.

In addition to the inauguration, Sroyer remarked that the minister was tasked by the president to visit the Port of Sausapor District to encourage the development of the port, so that large ships could dock in the area.

The development of the port is part of the efforts to realize the sea toll program and facilitate tourist arrivals.

"The government of Tambrauw District has prepared all necessary facilities on land, sea, and air for the minister's visit.

Local communities strongly expect the presence of the central government to inaugurate the two development projects for the benefit of the people," Sroyer emphasized.

Sroyer stated that the power plant has begun operations. The residents of Sausapor District have enjoyed 24 hours of electricity.

"The Werur Airport in Tambraw District has begun operations. Susi Air Airlines has conducted trial landings at the airport to serve the local community, with flights operating on the Sorong-Tambrauw route," Sroyer added.
