REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The senior investigator of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan would continue his medical treatment in Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) until recovered.

“He will be in Singapore, please give your prayer,” said Novel’s brother, Taufik Baswedan, in Singapore when contacted on Monday (April 24).

Taufik said, recently Novel’s right eye had a good progress. He had been able to read and to acknowledge letters. He was able to read the title of newspaper and acknowledged people’s faces. However, the recovery process of his left eye was lower.

If there was no progress, his left eye’s cornea should be replaced. “Doctors had not made any decision (about the need of cornea donor) until next week,” said Taufik.

He added that the doctors gave chemical liquid to Novel’s eyes to know the condition. It used color indication, eye drop, clean the space between eyes and the eyes’ casing so it would not move closer as a result of inflammation. Doctors also checked the eyes’ pressure.

He said the recovery process of the right eye had been 10-20 percents with eye pressure only reached 16-17 while the normal should be 6-21. The left eye had been recovered for only 5-10 percents. There was a little part of move between eyes and the eyes’ case as a result of inflammation, but it had been cleaned up.

There was no progress on the condition of his cornea. “The conclusion was that there is a significant progress on his right eye and we hope there will be a progress on his cornea for days ahead,” he said.

Two men attacked Baswedan as he was walking home after attending the dawn prayer at a nearby mosque at 5.10am in Kelapa Gading housing complex on Tuesday (April 11).
