REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- The government has planned to build a tidal current power plant in Larantuka, Flores of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in 2018, Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignasius Jonan said here, Friday.

"In 2018, we will build a tidal current power plant in Larantuka. We hope to get the public's support in East Nusa Tenggara to materialize this plan," Jonan said in a teleconference with NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya after the groundbreaking ceremony to start the 350-megawatt power plant construction in West and East Nusa Tenggara.

The power plant will be built in Larantuka, the capital city of East Flores district, he confirmed.

Meanwhile, NTT Governor Frans Lebu Raya told reporters after the teleconference that the authority was still working on the feasibility study and detail engineering design (DED) of the construction plan.

The local administration and state electricity company PLN has prepared the sites for the project in East Flores district, he stated.

"The East Flores regent has assured us that there will be no obstacles for the tidal current power plant project sites, as we only need a small area of land," Lebu Raya added.

The power plant will be built at the end of Palmera bridge, which will be built in 2018, to connect East Flores and Adonara Island.

"The power plant project is expected to be started in 2018, along with the construction of the Palmera bridge," Lebu Raya revealed.
