Police patrols for anticipating mass mobilization to Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARANGANYAR -- Karanganyar Resort Police patrolled along Solo-Sragen Street today (April 18). It was a follow up of joint statement issued by Jakarta Metro Police, Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU), and Jakarta Election Supervisors Agency (Bawaslu).

Through joint statement, the police, KPU Jakarta and Bawaslu Jakarta prohibited any parties to conduct mass mobiliziation to Jakarta during the gubernatorial election. It was worried to bring physical and psychological intimidation to the process of the second round of Jakarta election. 

Starting at 09.00 a.m., police patrolled all kinds of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. Police checked mini buses and inter-provincial and inter-city busses passengers and their luggage.  

Karanganyar Police Chief Ade Safri Simanjuntak said police should be ready to anticipate anything undesirable. He said there was a report predicted there would be mass groups came to Jakarta related to the election on Wednesday (April 19). 

"I said about the plan of mass mobilization (from outside of Jakarta) related to the election. The mass should have been in Jakarta at 05.00 a.m. and they would be deployed to every polling stations,” said Ade.

According to Ade, Solo-Sragen Street was a right point to make insulation as it connected East Java, Central Java and West Java. However, Ade said police had not found any mass movement indication, especially in Karanganyar. He said police would turn the people back to their home when there were such indication. 

“People who have no right to vote are appealed not to go to Jakarta. All the process had been handled by the competent. There should not be mass movement to the election points as it may bring conflict later,” he said. 

As many as 130 personnel deployed to patrols. Police also bring bloodhounds to check the luggage of containers or box. 

An official of Islamic organization namely Sharia Board of Solo (DSKS), Nurhadi, denied that there would be mass movement from Solo to Jakarta. He said the DSKS officials never instructed or sent any people to Jakarta related to the election.
