REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- China is exploring Jambi province's potential and offering cooperation to the administration.

Chinese Consul General for Sumatra Region, Zhu Honghai, during a visit to Jambi on Thursday, explained that his visit to Jambi was to offer cooperation to the Jambi provincial administration.

"This visit is an early stage to establish cooperation. We would like to get involved in more development projects in Jambi," Zhu said after a meeting with the Governor of Jambi, Zumi Zola.

"We expect the Jambi provincial administration to visit China. Every year, China holds several exhibitions and very welcomes Jambi to introduce its potential to the Chinese people at these events," he said.

Zhu also asked the Jambi provincial administration to conduct workshops in the fields of trade, agriculture and industry management that will be facilitated by the Chinese government.

"I urge the provincial administration to come to China in July, because there will be programs aimed at upgrading industrial, ports and shipping development," he said.

Meanwhile, Jambi Governor Zumi said the arrival of the Chinese Consul General was to discuss any potential areas in which cooperation can be achieved between Jambi and China.

According to him, Jambi holds considerable potential for cooperation in its agriculture, plantation and fisheries sectors.

"There are Chinese companies investing in Jambi, for example, Petrochina in the East Tanjung Jabung district that manages oil and gas," Zumi said.

Governor Zumi added that the provincial administration will facilitate investors and help them obtain permits and acquire land. He also hoped that people would support the cooperation.

"The Tanjung Jabung seaport, for example, should be built in cooperation with investors because the port is very vast, reaching 4,200 hectares, and it cannot be developed only with state and regional budgets," he said.

He added that the next meeting will be held with major companies' managements to talk more specifically about the investment fields that will be cooperated on with Jambi," the governor said.
