REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi will manage the toll road capacity during the upcoming Eid ul Fitr holiday season, in an attempt to prevent gridlock at the East Brebes toll road exit in Central Java, locally known as 'Brexit.'

"We will manage the capacity of the toll road carefully," Sumadi stated during a coordination meeting for the 2017 Eid ul Fitr holiday season here on Monday.

The minister remarked that the government will call on the people to use alternative routes during Eid ul Fitr homecoming.

"People should not only use Brexit but also alternative routes, particularly Java's southern road," he noted.

The government has urged the people to use Java's southern road during Lebaran homecoming.

In addition, the government will also conduct traffic management by closing the toll gate as soon as a long queue of vehicles is seen on the East Brebes toll road exit.

Twelve travelers were earlier reported to have died during the long traffic jam along the Pejagan-Breber toll road section on Monday (July 4).

The health service in Brebes believed that the travelers died because of their poor health condition when they undertook the journey and because the ambulances arrived too late because of the congestion.

A traveler was believed to have died because of fatigue after she was trapped in a traffic jam on Monday.

"We tried to help save Suharti (50) who seemed very tired, but we failed," the head of sports and scouts affairs of the Central Java chapter of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Amir Darmanto, informed when contacted by phone from Semarang, the capital of Central Java.

He explained that Suharti disembarked from the Sumber Alam bus bound for Yogyakarta and approached the PKS command post to relieve herself but fainted before she entered the facility.

"Our health team immediately extended help and took her to the community health center as she was in a critical condition. She was found dead on arrival at the nearest health center," he disclosed.
