REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Transport Ministry said it gave Lion Air two months to improve its operational system to better guarantee safety otherwise it would be punished.
The warning came in connection with the excessive filling of fuel or "avtur" at Surabaya's Juanda airport on Saturday.
"We give the airline time to be seriously addressing and cope with their problem," Air Transport Director General Agus Santoso told reporters here on Monday.
Agus said in two months the airline is expected to show improvement or sanction would be imposed.
"If by end of May they still miss the minimum standards, we will slap sanction depending on the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP). It could be suspension, or else," hes aid.
He said he did not rule out conducting special audit if investigations found anything considered fatal.
He said he has passed instruction to the Director of Air Worthiness and Aircraft Operation to carry out investigations of all Boeing 737-900 aircraft of Lion Air. "Our focus is 'safety. safety, safety', we hope all airlines especially Lion Air could do the same," he said.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of the Lion Group Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi said the company would examine all of its 108 units of medium bodied Boeing 737-900 aircraft. The management and the Directorate of Aircraft Air Worthiness and Operation will make an inspection.
"This week we will process this and will meet with Boeing and Airbus to discuss safety issue," Daniel said adding, "we will take immediate corrective action plan"
