REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – A member of National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Ansori Sinungan argued that the arrest of Secretary General of Muslims Forum (FUI) Muhammad Al Khaththath and five other people in the alleged coup plot case on Friday (March 31) was an overreaction.

He insisted that every person’s right had been guaranteed by the state, including the right of expressing their opinion, to gather and to associate.

“So if people only express their opinion and being arrested, I think it is a violation of his rights as state nationals,” said him to Republika.co.id on Monday (April 3).

Ansori said it was necessary to consider any impacts when this continuously happened. He thought such approach could set a time bomb and the blast could happened in anytime.

He hoped that the detained suspects in Kelapa Dua Police Headquarters in Depok could be released. He also suggested the survey institution to collect data of the impact of the continuous arrestment.
