Authority should respond quickly to Inul's hatred and hoax statement: MUI

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian dangdut singer, Inul Daratista, has made a provocative statement through her personal Instagram account on Sunday (March 26) by accusing an Islamic leader to have conducted an immoral behaviour. She also has discredited one of candidate in Jakarta gubernatorial election, Anies Baswedan, by connecting him with an alleged corruption case.

Her statement triggered an uproar in social media. "The authority has to respond quickly to her hatred and hoax statement. Moreover she is a public figure," Secretary of the Commission Propagation Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) Fahmi Salim said to Republika.co.id, Monday. 

Fahmi worried Inul statement will fuel a conflict and unnecessary shocks in the society. If the authority not respond it quickly, it could undermine national unity and harmony. "Do not let the people think the government is letting some parts of the society to spread hate speech and insulting Islamic figures," he said.

In her Instagram account, Inul posted a photo with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) who is running for governor in Jakarta gubernatorial election. Ahok was one of guest star in the TV show and Inul was also presented at the show. There were many comments against her post. "The comments were rude and she then defended herself with posting her thought," Dewi Aryani of Inul's management said to Republika.co.id.  

Within one night, Inul's statement has gained more critics. She then widen the topic by insulting clreic, calling people who defend the cleric as "pretend to be saint" and naming people who disagree with her as whose brain was located at knee. The hashtag #BoikotInulDaratista (#BoycottInulDaratista) had become a trending topic on Twitter
