REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Spokesman of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat (Ahok-Djarot)’s Winning Team, Emmy Hafild, claimed there was no solution to deal with environmental pollution in Jakarta Bay. She said the only option to resolve it was by relocating the societies in North Coastal of Jakarta. She added that the land in that area was 1.5 meters under the sea level. It was predicted to go down up to 2.5 meter under the sea level. It potentially ended up with three disasters in the future.

"Firstly, coastal flood. Secondly, flood because the water from rivers cannot enter the sea. And third, the disaster caused by dangerous pollution. So, reclamation is a part of plan to make a new and proper settlement to avoid all those disasters,” said Emmy in Cemara House, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Friday (March 17).

By making reclamation islands, Emmy said the government would also get some funds as contribution from the developers. The funds could be allocated to renovate the polluted coastal area and to plant mangroves. "New and proper settlement could be build in front of the mangrove areas," she claimed.

Latterly, the reclamation islands would be divided into three zones, namely the settlement zone, commercial area, and the government facilities. It had been the central government plan. She said the governor wanted the islands to be the part of Jakarta. It hoped to be a new area for all societies’ classes.

According to Emmy, the pollution of aquatic ecosystem was recently to be alarming. He gave examples of what happened in Bidadari Island and Seribu Island. The water in those islands was not good. The status of water condition in both islands was invisible.

"When it was monitored from the satellite up to two kilometers away, it is brown and murky. Even in front of Muara Angke, the anchor rope cannot be seen. That is how the Jakarta Bay,” said her.

Emmy said she was sad knowing the condition was embarrassing. The water was black and smelly. It was mixed with many wastes.

According to Emmy, the condition could not be neglected. It needed a new or manipulated ecosystem to save the life of the people in North Jakarta. He argued that reclamation should not be rejected because it could save the ecosystem in North Jakarta.
