Ahok offers Seribu Islands to South African president

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Non-active Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) has met South African President Jacob Zuma at the residence of the fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri. Ahok discussed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of Sister City program and offered the Thousand Islands for cooperation. ''We have MoU with Capetown but not yet signed. However we should go to there to sign it. So I must finish it,'' Ahok said, after the meeting, on Wednesday (March 8).

Ahok said he interested in the cultivation of the fishing industry in South Africa. South Africa provided land and permits. According to him, Jakarta has many regionally-owned enterprises (BUMD), including the private sectors. ''I said it would be better to have cooperation between the companies. We wanted to offer the Seribu Islands, in addition to travel, also good for the processing of fish and the fishing industry. We talk freely, '' he said.

He said the cooperation would be discussed when his position as Jakarta governor is activated. Moreover, he added, South Africa interested in following political developments in Indonesia. ''Jacob Zuma wanted to support. He wanted the world is more moderate in politics, '' he said.
