Passenger bus plunges into ravine killing seven

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARANGANYAR -- A passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the regency of Karanganyar on Sunday killing seven of its 29 passengers.

The seven dead victims are identified as Suwandi from Wonokasian, Sidoharjo, East Java, his son Ica Susilowati (23), Ria Resbara from Sidoharjo, Zuhro from Sidoharjo, East Java,Puji Haryanto from Sidoharjo, Ega from Sidoarjo and a man not yet identified.

Tawangmangu police chief Adj. Comr. Riyanto said the accident took place at 10.30 local time. Riyanto said the bus came from the direction of Kandang Tawangmangu heading for a tourist area in the regency of Karanganyar.

The bus run at a high speed and apparently the driver could not control the car that plunged into a river in the ravine. "Six of the passengers were killed on the spot and one died on the way of a hospital," Riyanto said.

The survivors are all driven to the Karanganyar hospital for medical treatment. Police said they are still investigating the accident.
