REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said roll on roll off (roro) vessel Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya route will operate on April 2017.
Roro cargo vessel is needed to transport the goods. To support the operation of roro ships, the ministry will activate the weightbridge in the north coast road.
"We did that because the number of heavy transport passing through the north coast road could not be controlled," he said on Wednesday.
Budi explains Minister of Works and Housing also requested to immediately operate the roro ship Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya route to reduce the north coast road and not easily damaged nowadays.
"Every year the north coast road has been repaired but damaged so the cost for the repairs was very expensive. So we created an alternative to transport cargo that passes through the sea," he said.
"We enforced the rules, the truck must be in accordance with the capacity. Truck with excessive load must return," he said.
