REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's state enterprises ministry will soon conduct a nationwide upgrade of some 76 small airports, with runways measuring 800-1,000 meters in length, in the next five years, Garuda Indonesia President Director Arif Wibowo stated. "Revitalization of these airports will be conducted in areas having economic growth and high population and whose export markets hold vast potential," Wibowo remarked at the State Enterprises Ministry's office here on Tuesday.

Wibowo noted that PT Garuda Indonesia, PT Angkasa Pura I-II, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, and Technical Services Unit of the Ministry of Transportation will be involved in the revitalization work.

Wibowo said his party is conducting an evaluation to determine airports to be included in the revitalization program, especially those that have not been well explored but have huge potential to be developed.

He explained that airports in Muara Teweh, Tanjung Enim, Karimun Jawa, and Seram Island, among others, will be revamped.
