Habib Rizieq asks the govt to withdraw all of new banknotes

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The grand imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab was questioned on the case of hammer and sickle in the new banknotes at the Jakarta Metro Police headquarters on Monday (January 23). After being questioned, Habib Rizieq asked the government to withdraw all of the new banknotes that were issued on 2016. "We ask the government to withdraw all of the new banknotes from the denomination of Rp1,000 to Rp100,000 which has a perception of hammer and sickle of the Indonesian Communist Party's logo," he said.

Habib Rizieq also urged Bank of Indonesia to explain the reason behind the decision to pick symbol resemble to hammer and sickle in its logo. He believed there were many other options that can be used with rectoverso technique. "We asked with respect to the government to explain, while there are millions of alternatives in the form of rectoverso technique, why they choose the picture that give perception of hammer and sickle logo. This is dangerous," he reiterated.

Habib Rizieq got 23 questions on the case of alleged existance of hammer and sickle logo at the new banknotes. He was questioned for four hours by the Jakarta Metro Police investigators, started from 11:00 am untill 15:00 pm.

To safeguard the habib, about 2,000 masses from different organizations came to Jakarta Metro Police headquarters. They had a long marched from Al-Azhar Mosque to the Jakarta Metro Police headquarters. The peaceful rally ended when Habib Rizieq asked them to go home.

The police did not named Habib Rizieq as suspect. According to Jakarta Metro Police Chief IG M Iriawan, the police will conduct further investigation after case trial is done. "It's up to the investigator, what decision they would make on the case," Iriawan said.
