REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named two people as suspects in a case of bribery related to the purchase of aircraft and aircraft engines. "After an investigation, the KPK found preliminary evidence of alleged bribery in the purchase of aircraft and aircraft engines from Airbus S.A.S. and Rolls-Royce P.L.C. by PT Garuda Indonesia (persero)," deputy chairman of KPK Laode M Syarif told the media here on Thursday.

The two suspects are former president director of Garuda Indonesia, identified as ESA, and the beneficiary owner of Connaught International Pte.Ltd, identified as SS. "ESA allegedly received a bribe from SS in goods and cash to the tune of 1.2 million Euro and US$180,000, equal to more than Rp20 billion. He also received goods worth US$2 million in Singapore and Indonesia," Laode revealed.

The anti-graft body, he added, will work in cooperation with the UK's Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), since it is a case of corruption with transnational aspects. "Currently, the two agencies are conducting investigations into other suspects," Laode noted.

Some government officials in Malaysia, Thailand, China and Russia were allegedly involved in similar bribery cases, he informed. The state-owned airlines company bought 50 new aircrafts from 2005 to 2014, Laode recalled.
