REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- A total of 15 countries have registered to participate in the Martial Arts (Pencak Silat) Festival to be held here in the third quarter of 2017, an official stated. "We will organize the Pencak Silat festival, and 15 countries have already registered for it," Ida Hernida, head of the provincial tourism and cultural affairs office, noted here on Monday.

The West Java provincial administration has chalked out a plan to increase the number of foreign tourist arrivals by organizing international-level tourism and cultural events, among others, she revealed. "During 2017, we plan to hold two international events, such as the Pencak Silat festival (in Bandung) and the Surfing festival to be held on Cimaja Beach, Sukabumi District. We will focus on these two international events," Hernida revealed, adding that the Surfing festival is expected to be held in the fourth quarter of this year.

She further noted that Cimaja Beach has, so far, been popular among national and international surfers as a "paradise" for extreme sports. "The Cimaja Beach has a special attraction for surfers, with its long and high waves that are challenging," she explained.

According to Hernida, the provincial tourism and cultural affairs office has set a target to attract 1.3 million foreign visitors in 2017, or more than 1.1 million targeted last year.
