Aceh earthquake refugees reach 3.267 people: BNPB

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of the Center of Data, Information, and Public Relations of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said as many as 3,267 residents of Aceh were currently displaced after the earthquake on Wednesday (7/12). They were accommodated to 13 evacuation points.

According to Sutopo, as many as 2,154 refugees came from Pidie Jaya and 1,113 others from Bireuen. "In Pidie Jaya there are 11 temporary evacuation points and in Bireuen there are two points," said Sutopo in BNPB Office, East Jakarta, Thursday (12/8).

Until Thursday at 06.00 am, BNPB officially received the report of 102 deaths. The death toll came from Pidie Jaya, as many as 99 people, one other person from Pidie and two people from Bireuen. "The number of people who suffered minor injuries reached 616 people and who severely injured as many as 136 people. They came from Pidie Jaya and Bireuen," said Sutopo.

Previously, an earthquake measuring on magnitude-6.5 on the Richter scale rocked Aceh at around 5:03 am, on Wednesday. It was not potentially followed by tsunami. Based on the data collected from the BNPB, the epicenter located at 18 kilometers north-east of Pidie Jaya with the depth of 10 kilometers below the ground surface.
