TNI Chief: The army ready to guard rally without guns

TNI Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo stressed his soldiers are ready to guard December 2 rallies without guns. If riot occured, he promised his soliders will protect the mass.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- TNI Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo stressed his soldiers are ready to guard December 2 rallies without guns. Even if there were a riot on the November 25 nor December 2 rally, TNI would defend the mass with bare hands. "Even if the rioters using guns, we will fight them bare handed," he assured.

 

Gatot said he has heard from National Police Chief that there were some parties trying to ride the November 25 and December 2 rallies. Those groups wanted to coup. "The original purpose of the rally has been biased by stowaways, therefore TNI will take part to guard national security," he said at the Main Meeting Room National Police Headquarter on Monday (11/21).

Furthermore, Gatot asked the people attending the rally to keep calm if there were a chaos. His soldier are ready to protect the mass if riot occurred. "Please stay calm, there are some groups of people who want us to be insecure," he said.

According to Gatot, if a group naming them self as jihadis brought weapons, TNI soldiers will face them bare handed. In case demonstrators were found to have guns, it will be seized. "I assure that my soldier together with police officers are ready to guard the security, public order and protect the people," he said.
