'Amien Rais is not the only one who wants to bring Ahok into justice'

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Politician of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Saleh Partaonan Daulay has said there was nothing wrong with Amien Rais statement about the allegation of blasphemy addressed to Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). "He (Amien Rais) was only expressing his moral appeal to urge the police to investigate allegations of religious blasphemy as demanded by the mass of protesters," said Saleh, Monday (10/17).

He said Amien was not the only one who demanding the police to take legal action on Ahok's religious blesphemy case. In fact, many elements of society and Islamic community organizations had demanded the same aspiration before the protest occurred in Jakarta on Friday (10/14).

Saleh asked the police to immediately arrest the perpetrator who spread hoax news about the order from National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian to investigate Amien Rais related his speech at the demonstration. "The police understands voicing aspiration is guaranteed by law. The protests would be allowed as long as it is held in peaceful way and not anarchistic," Saleh said.

Previously, there were rumor saying Tito Karnavian has ordered the National Police's Criminal Investigation division for interview Amien Rais. The National Mandate Party founder was accused saying Indonesian President Joko Widodo protected Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). Tito has denied the news and declared it as hoax news and as an attempt to blame him.
