Minor earthquake hits Padang and Bukittinggi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- An earthquake with a moment of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale (SR) shook the Padang City, West Sumatra (Sumatra) on Tuesday (9/27) at 3:12 pm.

Ketaping Padangpariaman Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), Budi Samiaji said the epicenter was in the Padang City.

The earthquake epicenter in the coordinates 1.33 degrees South Latitude and 100.39 degrees East Longitude or 66 kilometers southwest of Solok City with depth of 32 kilometers.

A Padang resident, Dini (26) said the earthquake was just a minute. "It just about three seconds," Dini said.

Other residents, Adiaat (23), said the same experience. The quake was not strong, but Adiaat feared aftershocks.

However the quake not felt by all local residents, some of them also did not feel it. A Padang resident, Iwan said he did not feel the quake, when he was hanging out with his friends.

Before the earthquake in Padang, on the same day an earthquake also happened in Bukittinggi with the same strength at the coordinates of 0.24 South latitude and 100.41 East Longitude or seven kilometers northeast of Bukittinggi with depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake occurred at around 12:38 pm and felt by the local residents of Bukittinggi, Padang Panjang and surrounding areas
