REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A political observer from Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Firman Noor, said candidates that will compete in the Jakarta gubernatorial election 2017 are the best pairs.

The three pairs are Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saiful (incumbent), Agus Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni, and Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno.

"Each coalition has appointed their candidates based on a very careful consideration," Firman said.

Meanwhile, judging from grassroots groups, Firman believed each candidate also has a relatively complete support.

"But, specific to the Muslims, at least in the institution, they seems to support pairs other than Ahok-Djarot.

According to Firman, Ahok has advantages from his fanatical supporters, while in terms of achievement is still relative.

However, Firman considered Ahok as a leader has a shortage of power in inviting the people and his men. His weakness is causing antipathy.

"This antipathy is increasing," he said.
