Indonesia keen to enhance cooperation with Qatar

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, DOHA - Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Alwi Shihab, stressed on Sunday his country's keenness to strengthen relations of cooperation with the State of Qatar in all economic sectors.

This came during a meeting held in Qatar Chamber Commerce and Industry (QCCI)'s headquarters today between a number of businessmen from both countries aimed at developing relations of cooperation and in particular, ways to enhance trade cooperation between Qatari and Indonesian private sector.

In this context, Dr. Shihab stressed the important role which could be played by Qatar and Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in achieving convergence between businessmen in the two countries and engaging in effective partnerships that would serve the interest of their economies.

He called on Qatari businessmen to invest in his country and invited them to actively participate in the 31st Trade Expo Indonesia 2016 and the Islamic Forum due to be held in Jakarta in October 2016.

For his part, Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Mohammed Bin Ahmed Bin Towar Al-Kuwari, said QCCI encourages Qatari businessmen to promote cooperation and exchange experiences with their Indonesian counterparts thanks to the stable investment climate in both countries.

In this context, he praised the bilateral historical ties between Qatar and Indonesia, pointing out to the investment opportunities announced by the President of the Republic of Indonesia during his recent visit to Qatar which would open new prospects for future cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation made a presentation on the investment climate and opportunities in Indonesia and the most important sectors in which Qatari businessmen can invest.

The visiting delegation also made a presentation on Indonesia Trade Fair 2016, which will showcase best Indonesian export products ranging from industrial, mining, agricultural to Craft sectors.

The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and Indonesia has risen over the recent period to $ 1.6 billion while Qatari exports of oil and natural gas rose to $ 1.2 billion.
