Jokowi departs to China to attend G20

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo left here for China on Friday (9/1) morning to attend the 11st G20 summit conference in China.

Including in the presidential entourage are Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Natural Resources Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Trikasih Lembong .

The summit meeting will be held for two days in Hangzhou, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, from Sept. 4 to 5.

A Palace spokesman Bey Machmudin said in a statement Jokowi would speak about the importance of free flow of information and transparency in taxation system among the member countries.

The president would push for balanced and fairer system of world trade in the meeting of heads of states and governments of world's largest economies, Bey said.

Indonesia joined the group, which accounts for 85 percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and dominate 75 percent of the global trade, as the world's 16 largest economy in 2009.

Jokowi would also call for greater attention to development of small and medium enterprises to support "inclusiveness" and development of infrastructure to revive the global economy, Bey said.

Upon arrival in Hangzhou, Jokowi is scheduled to meet with his Chinese counterpart President Xie Jinping on Friday afternoon.

Jokowi is also scheduled to have a bilateral talks with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina.

The visit to China is the third for Jokowi as president since 2014 and his talks with the Chinese president is expected to focus on economic issue mainly investment and trade.

Before the summit conference, Jokowi will take time to visit Shanghai to address a business meeting and meet Indonesian community.

From China, Jokowi and his entourage will fly to Vientiane, Laos, to attend the 28th ASEAN summit meeting and meetings of ASEAN dialog partners.

 

In the ASEAN summit meeting Jokowi would give emphasis on the importance of regional peace and stability to sustain growth.
