REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta Police has suggested the next matches of Jakarta-based soccer team Persija against other teams be carried out without spectators due to anarchic action committed by the Persija's supporters "The Jakmania" on Friday night.

The Jakarta Police spokesman, Senior Commissioner Awi Setiyono stated here on Sunday that such recommendation has been submitted to the All Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).

"PSSI has responded the police's suggestion and will conduct an emergency meeting on Monday (June 27)," Setiyono pointed out.

According to him, police has had a post-match analysis and evaluation in order to be used as material to be delivered to the PSSI.

Setiyono further said the police's suggestion that the next matches of Persija against other teams (during the Indonesia Soccer Championship (ISC) 2016) be carried out without spectators was aimed at preventing another riot to recur.

On Friday (June 24) night, some 155 Persija supporters were arrested by the Jakarta Police after a clash erupted during Jakarta-based soccer team Persija's match against South Sumatra`s Sriwijaya football club at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium.

"At least 150 supporters were taken into custody after the clash," Setiyono said on Saturday.

Persija`s match against the Sriwijaya football club had earlier been called off due to a riot after Sriwijaya defeated Persija 1-0.

After Persija`s goalkeeper failed to secure the ball, fans ran onto the pitch. Other Persija supporters broke down the fence dividing sector 13 and 14 in an attempt to access the field.

Officers tried to control Persija supporters who threw projectiles at them.

Five officers were injured and 19 supporters experienced breathlessness and chest pain.

"Five motorcycles were burnt and two cars were damaged," Awi revealed.

"Three people were critically injured and were undergoing treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital," he added.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has criticized Persija supporters for vandalizing the stadium.

On June 19, the East Java Provincial soccer club of Arema Cronus Indonesia defeated the Jakarta`s team Persija 1-0 in the Indonesia Soccer Championship (ISC) 2016 at the Kanjuruhan Kepanjen stadium on Sunday night.

The Indonesia Soccer Championship, better known as Torabika Soccer Championship 2016 is participated in by 18 clubs.

The participating clubs are Arema Cronus FC, Bali United, PS Barito Putera, Bhayangkara Surabaya United, Madura United, Mitra Kukar FC, Persegres Gresik, Persela Lamongan, Persib Bandung, Persija Jakarta, Perseru Serui, Persipura Jayapura, Persiba Balikpapan, PS TNI, PSM Makassar, Pusamania Borneo FC, Semen Padang FC and Sriwijaya FC.
