West Sumatra earthquake triggers small tsunami in Muko-Muko

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- An earthquake magnitude 6,5 on the Richter scale jolted the Pesisir Selatan District, West Sumatra, on Thursday (2/6) morning. It triggered small tsunami waves in the sea in Mukomuko district, Bengkulu Province.

"Thursday morning, the sea wave is high resulting in destructive stalls of traders in Air Punggur," said a resident of Koto Jaya Dirwansih, in Mukomuko, Thursday.

He said the wave also inundate Jalan Lintas Sumatera (Jalinsum) which connect the Bengkulu province with West Sumatra in the region.

"All the stalls of traders of Air Punggur damaged by the waves," he said.

Hafrizal, other resident of village Koto Jaya said after the earthquake rocked West Sumatra, the sea water rised and all of the pine trees behind people houses collapsed into the sea.
