Bogor residents enforce one day without smoke

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Residents of Kencana in  Bogor, West Java has committed to supported tobacco control. This is done by imposing a day without smoking.

"A day without smoking has been in applied since the beginning of 2016. Residents made Sunday as a day without smoking," said the Head of Peace and Order (Trantib) Kencana town, Tanah Sareal, Iyan Sofyan, in Bogor, on Tuesday (31/5).

Iyan explained, a day without smoking was an idea sparked by the neighborhood associations and they would like to invited the community to be consciously aware of the dangers of smoking and applying law No. 12/2009 about No Smoking Areas.

"A day without a cigarette is enforce throughout the region of Kencana," he said.

He said, since it’s only one day without smoking, residents began to get used to this rule. Sometimes there are people who forgot and are found to be smoking, these people are later fined up to Rp 50 thousand.

"For those who are caught smoking, they should be fined Rp 50 thousand and the fine money become part of the neighborhood association," he said.

In order to educate the public about the one day without smoking movement, local residents posted number of stickers containing information about this anti-smoking campaign. The sticker is made with a unique look and informative content.
