REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan or Aher said the West Java provincial government prepared a budget of around Rp24 billion to maintain and preserve the Citarum river through Citarum Movement Bestari in 2016.
"There will be about 12 thousand people and more who will be involved in the Citarum Bestari Movement held at 2 to 8 June, 2016. The budget was prepared around Rp24 billion," said Ahmad Heryawan, on Friday (27/5).
He said that in addition to the cleaning action of the seven mains upstream of Citarum River, over the period of six days, it will also educate people to not throw garbage and waste. The invitation, he said, is to promote "No Action” campaign, relating to protecting and preserving Citarum river. The first step would be to not cut down trees in surrounding areas.
"We urge people not to cut down trees. The existence of this tree is very important as it helps to absorb water back," he said as he continues to encourage people to not dispose of animal waste, household waste, industrial waste, and most importantly no littering.
"We are committed together, to not throw trash to Citarum river whether it’s both physical and non-physical or chemical," he said. Aher hopes that there will no longer be parties that will pollute Citarum river. "In the context of the provincial government to be called a social movement," he said.
It describes the movement Bestari Citarum is not included with the dredging of the river as it attempts to reduce the silting of the Citarum River this is a task for the central government.
He further said that around 12,000 people consisting of military personnel, police, students, and volunteers from Cultural Village Development of Environment (Ecovillage) and the general public will be involved in the Citarum Bestari Movement which will be held on June 2 to 8, 2016.
"This morning we coordinate a leadership meeting to establish a plan for June 2nd . We will launch the Citarum Bestari by involving more parties, the military and police," he said.
