REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- After having been present through the official website and three social media networks, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) launched his official YouTube account at the Bogor Palace, Saturday morning.

The YouTube account with the name of President Joko Widodo, http://youtube.com/c/jokowi, can be accessed starting 9 am, May 28, 2016.

Earlier, the head of state launched his Twitter account @jokowi and Facebook on June 21, 2015, his official website www.presidenri.go.id on December 15, 2015, and Instagram @jokowi on January 28, 2016.

In this digital era, the use of social media is very important as a means of the government to inform and communicate with the public.

Therefore, the president so far has had five social media channels that can be utilized by the public.

"Use new ways of delivering information, and leave the old patterns," the president said before the public relation officials of state institutions and ministries at the State Palace February 4, 2016.

Additionally, social media can also be used as a means for distributing calls for peace as President Jokowi delivered during a visit to the United States on February 17, 2016.

"Therefore, we must work together with social media to spread peace and tolerance," the president said.

The YouTube official account of President Joko Widodo is the result of a joint production between the Communications Team of the President with the Bureau of the Press, Media and Information of the Presidential Secretariat.
