REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Flash floods inundated 377 houses and seriously damaged 20 others in two villages in Bungo District, Jambi Province, on Saturday.

"From reports that we have received, the seriously damaged houses are located in Batu Kerbau and Baru villages," Dalmanto of the Jambi disaster mitigation office, said here, Sunday.

In Batu Kerbau village, 227 houses were flooded, while in Baru village, 150 houses were inundated.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in the natural disaster.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast that nearly 90 percent of Indonesia will experience heavy rains and strong winds that could continue until the second week of February.

As the country is still grappling with the impacts of El Nino, the BMKG recently announced that another natural phenomenon called La Nina, which is the opposite of El Nino and usually triggers a heavy rainy season in Indonesia, is forecast to begin in September 2016.
