REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has urged the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to actively engage in the economic diplomacy program that is run by the government.

Kadin can play its role in improving the performance of Indonesia's economic diplomacy, the minister remarked when receiving Kadin Chairman Rosan Roeslani with his staff here Friday.

Besides, Kadin is also expected to assist in the formulation of targets in economics for partner countries, and translate the political investment that has been made by the foreign ministry with friendly countries, Retno said.

"The synergy and coordination between the government and businesses are expected to continue to be strengthened so that the target of economic cooperation with partner countries that have been set by the government can be realized," Retno said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs through the Chamber of Commerce encourages the private sector to help define the Indonesian economic interests in order to give the government a clear map of national interests.

A map of the national economic interest is clearly needed to facilitate the government in cooperation with partner countries.

The map of national economic interests was also required by the Indonesian government as a reference in the negotiations, such as for the "Free Trade Agreement" (FTA), "Comprehensive Economic Partnership" (CEP), and "Trans Pacific Partnership" (TPP).

In the meeting between the foreign minister and chairman of Kadin Indonesia and colleagues, the two sides also discussed the planned visit of President Joko Widodo to several European countries, which is expected to give a real contribution to the development of national economy.
