REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LJUBLJANA -- Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar has strongly condemned the desecrations of Ljubljana mosque, saying that the renewed attempt to intimidate the Muslim community in Slovenia was "extremely regrettable".
The construction site of the Ljubljana mosque was desecrated again last night. For the second time in less than a month unknown perpetrators left a pig's head and blood at the site near Ljubljana city centre.
The Government Communication Office on Monday quoted Cerar that Slovenia as a society must insist on zero tolerance to such acts, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).
"Dialogue and respect of every individual, regardless of their national, racial, religious or ethnic identity, are the key binder in a society that wants to enhance and build its future," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying.
The police have launched an investigation after the first incident on January 13, 2016 and the latest incident will also be investigated on suspicion of public instigation of hatred and intolerance, STA report said on Monday.
The police were informed shortly before 1 am Monday that somebody had thrown parts of a pig's cadaver over the construction site fence.
Perpetrators could get up to two years of imprisonment if found guilty of public instigation of hatred, according to STA report.
The first desecration was condemned by the government, several religious communities and NGOs.
