UI to monitor LGBT community

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- University of Indonesia (UI) to monitor the community of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender or known as LGBT.

"We will ban all the [illegal] activities that related to LGBT at UI. We will monitor every organizations at the faculties and also students and lecturer who allegedly as LGBT," vice chancellor for Student Affairs UI, Bambang Wibawarta said on Friday (22/1).

According to Bambang, UI would take an affirmative action to community that declare them self as Support Group and Resource Center on Sexuality Studies (SGRC). He said, they never registered as an official organization at university nor listed in Student Activity Unit.

He explained that the Rector of UI feel cheated because this organization has been using the logo and the name of the UI in their activities. Bambang also emphasized that UI would never legalize LGBT behavior. Even, UI would like to fight it.

Yesterday, a campaign poster from community that named them self as SGRC UI appeared in social media. In that poster, some UI students also shared their experience as LGBT.

They are Dimas Mahendra (Faculty of Psychology UI), Luna Siagian (Faculty of Political Science UI), Tegar Ramadhan (alumnus French Literature UI), and Firmansyah (alumnus Faculty of Management and Economics UI) are students that appeared in the poster. They also wrote how to accept their self, that different from other.
