Indonesian students win gold medal in IJSO South Korea

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian students won gold medals in International Junior Science Oympiad (IJSO) 2015 in Daegu, South Korea, on 2nd to 11th December 2015. A team of 12 junior high school students achieved two gold medals, eight silver medals and two bronze medals.

"Indonesian student team succeeded in bringing a good name of Indonesia," said Director of SMP, Ministry of Education and Culture, Supriano, Sunday (13/12).

Indonesia sent two teams consisting of six leaders, 12 students, and 2 technical supports. Training Center (TC) has been carried out to select the Indonesian team in three stages of training for 12 weeks. TC participants were medallist of OSN national level in 2015. They practiced intensively and got a brief training from ITB and UI.

IJSO in South Korea was attended by 249 students from 40 countries, including member countries of IJSO and some observers from other countries, such as Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Kazakhstan, and Kenya.

The Indonesian team that won gold medals, was Hilya Nadhira Imam (SMPI Al Azhar 8, Bekasi, West Java) and Ivander Jonathan Marella Waskito (SMP Mawar Sharon Christian School, Surabaya, East Java).
