REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo has expressed concern over several comments being posted on social media that veer from the values of social life and appropriate code of conduct.

"Some blasphemous comments have been posted on social media in response to a particular news. I have questioned why some Indonesian people have conducted themselves in this manner? How can it be?" Jokowi stated in a speech during the opening of the National Public Relation Convention held here, Wednesday.

The president noted that the government continued to follow some trending topics on social media, including information on some current criminal acts.

The head of state has invited public relations officers in Indonesia to disseminate positive information, which is both appealing and reminiscent of positive values.

"I believe the public relations officers have the ability to spread the values. We want to see information that appeals to the public or even motivates the people to conduct themselves in a positive and optimistic manner," he emphasized.

Additionally, Chairman of the Indonesian Public Relation Association Agung Laksamana remarked that the national convention was attended by 300 participants from Indonesia.

"The convention, to be held until November 20, 2015, will also be attended by the Youth Public Relation Association from several universities," Agung added.

He noted that public relations professionals should always keep abreast of the latest developments in technology, including the current digital technology.
