REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- The Jambi police destroyed 37 thousand ecstasy pills, 137 grams methamphetamine, and two kilograms dried ganja on Wednesday under Jambi Mayor Syarif Fasha's supervision following a ceremony to mark the Indonesian Youth Oath Pledge Day.

Mayor Fasha said the city government supported the police's efforts to end the circulation of illegal drugs and destroy them as illegal trafficking of narcotics has been increasing in the recent days.

He stated that the city government would launch a movement to fight the drug menace by deploying anti-drug task forces at the grass root level, such as in villages, which would carry out their tasks in coordination with the local police.

The mayor remarked that the drugs were destroyed on the occasion of the Youth Oath Pledge Day on October 28 in an effort to remind the youth of the dangers of drugs and the importance of staying away from illegal drug trafficking.

Head of Jambi City Police Headquarters Senior Commissioner Bernard Sibarani noted that the drugs destroyed on Wednesday had been confiscated during the August-September 2015 operations from eight suspects.
